Coming and Going

Day 101 of Campaign Smile was limited on campaign stops.  However, I did manage to find time to visit a couple of stores and was impressed with what I found…

1. As I walked in the first store I was stunned to have a smiling employee greet me from behind the register and welcome me to the store.

2. When I left a short time later a second woman who was working there smiled and said goodbye to me.

3. After leaving the store I passed a woman pushing a child in a stroller.  The older woman returned my smile generously with one of her own.

4. I then visited the second store.  Though I was not welcomed as before I did receive a similarly nice smile and “Have a good day” from an employee on my way out.  These gestures are great when they seem to be genuine.  However, all too often the empty words are shouted at us when we enter or leave.  It is something a lot of places have started encouraging their employees to do but if their only motivation is to not get in trouble then all we hear are words.

After all that we ended up with 4 more smiles to post on the scoreboard, bringing the score to 343!
