Day 71 of Campaign Smile took me on a campaign stop/personal celebration. I am about to start a new job after 11 years with the retail chain I now work for. Though we went to a larger chain restaurant it does not mean I am abandoning my new attempts to visit small businesses with my smile campaign. We had simply been wanting to visit this restaurant and had not done so in quite some time, saving it for a special occasion. The smiles were abundant, though, and we were pretty sure our waiter was new which is more evidence of new hiring (not to mention my new job and whoever replaces me at my old job).
1. The young woman at the hostess stand was pretty serious but did manage a small smile as she led us to our booth.
2. Our waiter seemed hurried and a little nervous. He did have a ready smile, though, and was very eager to help. He brought everything pretty quickly, even if it seemed he was sometimes struggling to keep up with the needs of all the different tables. I looked at our tacos and noticed they were simply shells half filled with beef and nothing else. When I asked him about it, I barely got the question out before he took off to get another. In truth, I just figured he was supposed to bring the cold ingredients on a separate plate that he had forgotten. Before I knew it, though, I had another taco with everything on it. I hope he is able to relax a little as he settles into the job.
3. The young lady serving the tables near us was taking great strides to keep an eye on his tables as well. That further convinced me he was new. She was very helpful in offering to assist him and dropped off a new basket of chips with a smile as she went back to her section.
