Independence Day

What a great day for Campaign Smile.  Today was the 69th day of the smile campaign as well as Independence Day.  I attended the day’s festivities along with several hundred others and the smiles were abundant far beyond my ability or intention of recording them.  I was too busy enjoying the event and the joy around me.  Though I did not count smiles I did make some important observations.

The most important thing that I saw today was the variation throughout the crowds.  Every race and belief system seemed to be represented.  We all know that this country is a melting pot of cultures but seeing everyone coming together as a group to celebrate the birthday of our home touches the heart.  Every dispute and disagreement over who we like, who we dislike and who we do or do not trust was set aside.

Regardless of any other concerns we have among ourselves, on this day we are all the same person.  We are all proud citizens of a great country that gives us all the same opportunities and the same chance to voice our opinion, popular or not.  Male or female; white, black, Asian or Hispanic; Muslim, Christian, or Jewish; conservative or liberal; none of it matters on this day.  As one we stand side by side and pay tribute to the country we love.

On another note, I received another comment smile from Josh, a regular reader.  He also made an excellent suggestion.  He recommended I focus my campaign on more small, locally owned businesses and give them the boost that a chain of smiles can bring.  I plan to do everything I can to follow this suggestion since, after all, small business and entrepreneurs are what built this country, what helped it recover in the ’30’s and what will, inevitably, return it to its former strength.  Watch for that change and I’ll do my best to give free plugs to those businesses as well.  You can read Josh’s comment on yesterday’s post, Crossing Against The Light, as well as my complete response.  Thank you again to all my readers.  If my little blog can help bring smiles to you then it makes it worth the world to me. I will still add Josh’s comment smile, bringing the total to 226.
