On Day 58 of Campaign Smile I made a very brief campaign stop at the end of the day. Before I talk about it, though, another reminder about the rapidly ending James Dean Contest. Make sure you’re entered by subscribing today. As for the smile campaign stop, though, I caught the store and its employees at the end of the day with but one hour before their closing time. As such, I was not surprised by the limited number of customers or the manner in which the employees seemed to be very focused on their present tasks. They were probably concerned that they might have to stay past closing time if they were not finished.
1. Though I passed a small handful of fellow shoppers as I walked around there was only one instance where I made eye contact. A couple walking toward me was actively involved in a discussion but both looked at me and my smile for a moment before turning back toward each other. Whatever they were discussing, I hope our silent, pleasant exchange brought even more positive feelings to the topic.
2. As I walked down one of the aisles I approached one of the store employees. I was so thrilled to actually see her whole person light up when she saw my smile. She returned it back to me and then some as well as saying hello to me.
3. I passed a second employee, one of those pushing through a final task, next. She looked up to find my smile and beamed back in kind as she said, “hi there.”
Though not a lot of interactions, 50% of the people I engaged smiled back at me bringing the total to 200! Roll, campaign, roll.
